Abstract

Abstract (English)

Antipyretic activity of the ethanol extract of bajakah root (Spatholobus littoralis) in male white mice (Mus musculus L.) induced with 5% peptone. According to several studies, bajakah root contains various chemical constituents, including secondary metabolites such as saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins. Fever is a condition characterized by an increase in body temperature above normal. This research aimed to determine the antipyretic activity of the ethanol extract of bajakah root (Spatholobus littoralis) in male white mice induced with 5% peptone and to identify the effective dose of the extract in reducing fever. Mice were induced with a 5% peptone solution until a rectal temperature increase of ≥ 0.6°C was observed. The experiment consisted of five test groups, with treatments administered orally. Rectal temperatures were measured using an infrared thermometer at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, and 240 minutes after treatment. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Bajakah root was able to significantly reduce the rectal temperature of mice compared to the negative control (p<0.05). The percentage of antipyretic power obtained was 63.84% (1g/kgBW), 105.08% (2g/kgBW), and 165.71% (4 g/kgBW), while the positive control (paracetamol) was 167.50%. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between the negative control and all treatments, and there was no significant difference between the extract dose of 4 g/kgBW and the positive control (p = 0.941).
