Abstract

Abstract (English)

Salacca zalacca (salak) is a tropical plant whose fruit peel contains secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins that have the potential as bioreducting agents in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs). This study aims to evaluate the ability of fresh extract of salak fruit peel to form AgNPs biosynthetically. Extraction was carriedout by boiling 50 g of salak fruit peel in 500 mL of distilled water at 65°C for 10 minutes. Synthesis was carriedout by mixing the extract at concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20% with 0.15 M AgNO ₃ solution, then heated at 70°C for 10 minutes. The results showed a change in the color of the solution to dark brown, but no absorbance peak was formed at a wavelength of 395-515 nm based on UV-Vis spectrophotometric analysis, indicating that AgNPs were not formed optimally. This failure is thought to be caused by too short extraction time, inefficient use of distilled water solvent, and possibly low content of soluble active flavonoids. Further optimization of the extraction method and reaction conditions is needed so that salak fruit peel can be used effectively as a bioreductorin the synthesis of silver nanoparticles.
